International Women's Day

7th Mar 2025

This International Women's Day, we're thrilled to share the inspiring journey of our Skipton Senior Branch Manager, Helen Carter. Her knowledge, passion and dedication to her work continue to empower and inspire us daily.

What inspired you to pursue a career in the property industry?

My career has been largely in sales, primarily in sports, given my athletic background. However, as I grew older, I developed a strong interest in the housing market, inspired by family members in the property industry.

How has your role evolved since you first started?

I started as a weekender and worked hard to learn and grow, seizing every opportunity. Today, more groups support women in aiming for higher positions, fostering a culture where women champion each other—something I believe is vital.

Have you faced any challenges in the property industry? How did you overcome them?

Maintaining a good work-life balance is challenging, but a strong relationship with your manager, built on honesty and communication, can help you maintain a good balance.

What achievement are you most proud of in your career?

I started my property career at forty-six, aiming to become a Branch Manager within five years. Through dedication, I achieved this in just four.

Can you share a moment where you felt like you were making a real impact?

Developing my team is a passion—I believe in leading by example and showing that hard work leads to success. When I joined, I brought in a trainee with no prior training, and after four years, he became a Branch Manager, which I'm incredibly proud of.

What advice would you give other women aspiring to enter the property industry?

Be strong, determined and work hard; don't be afraid to ask for help when needed.
